Cusp Signs: What It Means to Be Born on the Cusp

May 27, 2026·4 min read

If your birthday falls right where one sign ends and the next begins, you've probably been called a cusp sign. Here's what that actually means.

The honest truth about cusps

Astrologically, you can only have one sun sign. The Sun is either in Gemini or in Cancer at the moment you were born — there's no blend. So "cusp signs" aren't an official thing in the way memes suggest.

But there's a real reason you relate to both

Two things explain the cusp feeling:

  • Sign dates shift slightly each year. If you're born around the 19th–23rd of a month, the Sun may have changed signs at a specific hour — so depending on your birth time, you could be either sign. The only way to be sure is to calculate it.
  • Your other placements. You might be a Cancer sun with a Gemini moon or rising, which genuinely blends the two energies.
